Falling down & Getting up / God loves us and wants us to love Him
K-Gr. 6
For the next 3 weeks we are taking a break from “What’s Bugging You” and focusing on a new curriculum about the Olympics! Since the Summer Olympics is currently taking place, we thought this to be suitable.
On Sunday, the kids heard about Samson which fits well with this week’s theme “Falling Down, & Getting Up.”
When good things happen, it’s easy to forget about God and to think we need to depend only on ourselves. Samson gave away his secret of strength that God gave him and in return became a prisoner.
Samson lost sight of God, but the good news is that God is always willing to forgive us and to give us a second chance!
Our verse for the next 3 weeks is “Do you not know that in a race all runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” 1 Corinthians 9:24
If you would like to go deeper in the story of Samson, take some time to read the following:
Judges 13
Judges 14
Judges 16:4-30
Today’s Prayer:
God, thank you for your amazing love that never quits. Help me in the times when I feel like I can do it with my own strength and my own way; to refocus and set my sights on the goal that you have put before me.
Thank you, in Jesus name; Amen
Junior / Preschool Class
Today I learned.
God loves us and wants us to love him.
Story found in Exodus 20:1-11
On Sunday the children learned that God loves us and wants us to love him. They reviewed the Ten Commandments and learned about God’s love for them. They talked about ways to express their love to God.
Help me learn this:
“I obey your commandments with all my heart” (psalm 119:69b)
Ask me:
Why did God give us the Ten Commandments?
How can you show God you love him?
How can we show God that our whole family loves him?
Family Fun
Express your love for God as a family with a Pray ‘n’ Praise Night. Set out a variety of items to use as musical instruments. Include plastic bowls, large spoons, and pan lids. Invite each family member to choose an “instrument”. Then play a recording of a praise song and play along. When you’re finished, have a quiet prayer time and thank God for his love.
